Dave Huber - Playwright?

I am careful about calling myself a playwright. These people are my heroes - Parks, Williams, Ionesco, Wilson, Nottage, Shanley, Strindberg, Kushner, Durang, etc. These people are gods.

I wrote several short plays many years ago with a small bit of success. Then, for thirty years, I was surrounded by wildly creative teenagers and I learned a lot about life and creating art. Now, I am using all that knowledge from my students to write what I never could before.

Festivals, Contests, Workshops

DUTCH LEFTOVERS

was chosen for a paid two week workshop in Arlington Virginia in February. We had two readings for small audiences at the end. I learned a great deal about this play as well as how to workshop a play and how to be a real playwright. Dutch Leftovers is much closer to being performance ready.

THE DIARY of MARIA

was chosen to be published in Qu Literary Magazine in February. This feels different from the theatre contests and festivals which are about the performance potential. This one is about the writing. This is very validating!

This play was also accepted for publication by Clockhouse Literary Magazine as well but I had to decline.
